Crafting Identity: Geographical Indications (GIs) for protecting the European Craft Sector
Wed, 8 November 2023 at 17.00 CET

Save the date for our upcoming New European Bauhaus (NEB) webinar on GIs for crafts! The webinar is free and open for all to attend and you can register to attend below.

In September, the European Parliament approved new rules to protect European crafts and voted on new measures to protect geographical indications (GIs) of EU crafts and industrial products. The measures unify diverging national rules on registering, checking and enforcing the protection of (GIs), while also confirming the role of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in protecting the GIs of EU crafts.
But what does this mean in reality for the EU craft sector and European craftspeople?
What are GIs and how are they applicable to craft products? How can GIs preserve craft heritage and traditional knowledge as well as protect its intellectual property? How will this bring the strengthening of the legal protection for products covered by GIs?

Join us for the Crafting Identity webinar, where guest speakers will include Audrey Aubard, Secretary General of French Association of Industrial and Artisanal Geographical Indications (FFIGIA), representatives from European organisations and best practices/ examples from some European countries.
The webinar is part of the New European Bauhaus webinar programme by WCCE which is designed to enhance the capacities of the craft sector with the aim to contribute to building more resilient and sustainable societies and encourage the necessary adaptation of those practices in the sector.

This will be the 4th webinar in the New European Bauhaus (NEB) programme, implemented within the framework of the “CRAFTING” project (Creative Europe Programme). The NEB programme addresses project goal no. 2: “To generate a structuring effect on the European Craft sector through an enhanced capacity to respond to common (economic, digital, societal and environmental) challenges, nurture talents, innovate, prosper, generate jobs and growth and contribute to urban and rural areas development”.
