 A captivating 4-day workshop will introduce primary school children to the world of European craftsmanship via Basket Weaving from Paper and Clay Constructions. Through engaging storytelling, interactive narrations, and hands-on practical labs, children will explore the artistry behind these age-old techniques, and explore their creativity, teamwork and hopefully find appreciation for handcrafted traditions. Each participant will create their own mini paper basket and unique clay creation, connecting them to Europe’s rich artistic heritage.

Embroidery holds a potent place in every culture as it passes stories, symbols and traditions down the generations through age-old hand-making techniques. Persian embroideries are especially renowned for their beauty and communicative power, often being used to continue cultural heritage through times of both celebration and political struggle. In this workshop clothing designer Shafi Qias will introduce visitors to simple stitch work styles that can be used to add character to textiles ranging from clothing to homewares.

Children will explore and learn about the art of weaving from the older generations of weavers of the Filakto village, with some help from experienced stuff.

Soufli is a small town famous for being the European city of Silk. From Byzantium years silk came in the area and created an important history for locals. Nowadays Soufli still produces silk cocoons as a basic material. The workshop invites children and adults to join the festival of silk creativity! We will create a wonderful zoo made of silk cocoon animals. Workshop is open to children above the age of 8 that can use scissors and adults.

Initiated in 2002 by the French government, the European Artistic Craft Days (EACD) are coordinated by the Institut pour les Savoir-Faire Français, formerly INMA. WCCE has awarded grants to organisations all over Europe to take part in the EACD as part of the Crafting project co-funded by the European Union.
