EUROPEAN ARTISTIC CRAFT DAYS

Showcasing European craft and inspiring future makers
Created in 2002 upon the request of the French government, the European Artistic Crafts Days (Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art) are organised by the Institut National des Métiers d’Art (INMA). During a week in the early spring, workshops open their doors, demonstrations are held, and training schools are open in around 20 European countries.
After two years away from the very essence of the European Days of Crafts, INMA is working to restore the spotlight on meetings, exchanges and demonstrations of know-how with professionals in the crafts and living heritage .
During the sixteenth edition which will be held from March 28 to April 3, 2022 around the theme “Our hands in unison”, INMA will beat time, like an orchestra conductor, around the human, the doing- together and the European nature of the gestures of the crafts.
There is in crafts a universal energy, know-how, gestures, knowledge transmitted from hand to hand, from generation to generation, since the beginnings of humanity. The 2020-2021 health crisis has profoundly disrupted our ties. We had to resolve to move away, no longer touch, no longer smell, no longer see each other. Human networks have been put on hold, isolation and uncertainty have hit hard those who care about the tangible, the material and the transmission: professionals in the arts and crafts and living heritage.
More than ever, in 2022, in the workshops, hands will bind and shake through collaborations, initiations and reunions. It is these hands that know, that transform and transmit. They are the first tool of the craftsman, his metronome and his instrument. They punctuate the pace of production, moving from sketch to production, magnifying the materials, to offer a harmonious creation, a clever blend of tradition and innovation.
During JEMA 2022, in all territories and in all languages, professionals in the arts and crafts and living heritage will tell their passion with one voice, one hand, in unison.
