WCC-Europe presents a new webinar in the framework of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) online conference series.
“Crafting the path to a greener Europe” is a free, online event, aimed at discovering and debate about the values and principles with what the crafts sector promotes sustainability. It is scheduled for October 19th, 2022, at 5PM CEST (4PM GMT+1).
WCC-Europe aims to strengthen the status of crafts as a vital part of cultural, social and economic life, promoting a sense of fellowship among the global craftspeople community, offering to its members encouragement, assistance and advice.
Particular attention will be paid to the New European Bauhaus values. Indeed, this online event is part of the NEB webinar programme, implemented within the framework of the “Crafting the Future” project (Creative Europe Programme) and it will unfold the project goal no. 5. “to highlight and accelerate the important transformative role the European craft sector plays as a driver of sustainability and circular economy, maximising its potential to combat climate change, including reducing the environmental impact of its activities”.
Craftspeople will play an important role in shaping a beautiful and sustainable future. We also identify the need of developing new forms of collaboration and strengthening of professional communities. Likewise, sustainability and circular economy are ranked highest among the current sector challenges.
The webinar aims to contribute to enhancing the capacities of the craft sector in building a more resilient and sustainable society, by encouraging the necessary adaptation of best practices in the craft sector.

María Iglesias
María Iglesias is Team Leader at the Cultural Policy Unit of the European Commission Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, where among other things she is dealing with the cultural dimension of the New European Bauhaus. Before joining DG EAC, María worked for the European Commission Joint Research Center and for other private and public organisations active in the field of culture and intellectual property rights.
Victoria de Pereda
Sustainability and design consultant, Victoria de Pereda‘s activity focuses on defining and implementing projects/strategies related to products and services within the circular economy while assisting companies, institutions, and organisations to transition towards more sustainable practices. As an industrial Designer and 10 years as Sustainability Director, she has been involved in Higher Design Education as director of various departments including Innovation Programs, Product Design, Interior Design. She currently participates as a consultant on international projects for social development related to crafts and entrepreneurship and teaches courses on sustainability and design.
ThusThat – Kevin Rouff
ThusThat explores the hidden backstories of everyday materials. Led by Kevin Rouff and Paco Boeckelmann, the studio bridges design and making with innovations in material science, to create statements that are strong, and direct in form, keeping the complexity packed within the materiality itself. Their work primarily focuses on the use of uncommon materials such as industrial wastes, to suggest alternative futures. ThusThat works within a range of scales from collectible objects, interior design, and architecture. Their projects with wastes of the mining and metallurgy industries have received international acclaim and have been globally exhibited, with pieces in the permanent collection of the London Design Museum and Design Museum Gent.
Marita Setas Ferro
Marita Setas Ferro is the founder, designer and CEO of Portuguese ‘slow fashion’ brand, Marita Moreno, which develops unique designer pieces and sustainable accessory lines that focus on making products which are ethically produced and made to last. The brand has been nominated for and won numerous green product, eco and sustainability awards related to innovations and developments in sustainable fashion and materials.
