Monica Moisin is a cultural intellectual property and fashion lawyer and cultural sustainability consultant. As the founder of the Cultural Intellectual Property Rights Initiative™ and co-founder of WhyWeCraft, Monica has been exploring law, cultural heritage, cultural sustainability, cultural appropriation, sustainable development, digitisation of cultural heritage, leadership, resilience, ethics and transparency in textile supply chains & more.
With a double specialisation in EU law and international arbitration, Monica works with various stakeholders in the fashion business and creative industries. She mediates collaborations between fashion and craft and designs benefit-sharing business models based on integrating traditional craftsmanship and collaborations with craft and artisan communities in contemporary fashion supply chains.
In 2020, together with the team at the Cultural Intellectual Property Rights Initiative™, Monica developed and launched WhyWeCraft, a real-life, immersive artisan-designer co-design experience. WhyWeCraft is focused on cultural sustainability in fashion. With both an educational component and a practical component, as well as a legal framework of equal partnership between designers and craftspeople, the project aims to rewire the relationship between people and garments to tackle the problem of garment overconsumption and bring back economic prosperity of local and handcrafted production.
