WCC Europe invites everybody to join the first annual conference organized in the framework of the «Crafting the Future» project. This year the focus will be on the necessary skills for the next generation of craftspeople. «Crafting the Future – Skills for the next generation of craftspeople«, hosted by CEARTE at the Museu de Arte Popular in Lisbon on June 29, is one of the side events scheduled for the next WCC Europe GA.
The conference aims to set up a platform for exchanging relevant inputs on education, life-long learning, training and other aspects related to the transmission of knowledge and skills to younger generations, the sustainability aspects of the processes, and the accreditation systems in different European countries. Each of these topics will be addressed by experts from all over Europe. In order to actively engage the public, more attention will be given to the Question & Answers’ sessions.
The conference will be delivered in English and is free to join, both in-person and online. Please, be aware that the official time for the conference to start is 2.30pm GMT+1 (Portugal/UK/Ireland), and it correspond to 3.30pm CEST (Italy/Spain/France).

Floriana Folisi
Human Capital Development expert – Country Liaison for Algeria, European Training Foundation (ETF)
Floriana started her professional career in Brussels, working for one of the EU cross-sectoral social partners (CEEP) and contributing also to the work of the Employer Group at the European Economic and Social Committee. She joined the EU Institutions in 2007 and ultimately the ETF in 2012. She holds a Master Degree in International Relations from the University of Turin as well as a Master Degree in EU Policies from the Université Catholique de Louvain. In the past year she worked on the analysis of the crafts and design sector from the specific angle of upcoming skills, looking at the main drivers of change and innovation in the EU neighbourhood and Central Asia.
Chloé Battistolo
Project manager, French Savoir-Faire Institute of the Maître d’art-Elève program
‘Since 1994, the French Ministry of Culture has been committed to perpetuating the remarkable and rare know-how of the arts. With the title of Maître d’art, it supports the transmission of know-how that embodies the excellence of the artistic crafts, participate in the French economic and cultural life and for which the offer of training is limited or non-existent. After having accompanied the contemporary artistic creation and the performing arts, Chloé Battistolo is the project manager within the French Savoir-Faire Institute of the Maître d’art-Elève program ensuring the selection of the new Maîtres d’art, the accompaniment of the transmissions of knowledge-make and professional projects of the Elèves as well as the valorization of the know-how and the duos Maîtres d’art-Elèves.’
VALTER LUCA DE BARTOLOMEIS
Director of the rare Caselli Institute and Real Fabbrica di Capodimonte, Designer
Valter Luca De Bartolomeis directs the Caselli-De Sanctis Institute with a rare address, the Royal Factory of Capodimonte and the MUDI – Didactic Museum of Ceramics and Porcelain, of which he is also the founder. He teaches Product Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and is the author of books and essays on design and communication for the enhancement of the territory and cultural heritage. He collaborated on the initiatives of the national SDI Sistema Design Italia network, and on «Design research map» _DRM 2, Compasso d ‘Oro in 2011. Member of the Handmade design committee of ADI, of the commission of experts of the recognition MAM – Maestro d’Arte e Mestiere of Fondazione Cologni, he was a member of the scientific committee of the Wd Workshop design, selection of the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2004 and of the research project -action INPORCELLANE, for the Faculty of Architecture of the Federico II University of Naples, in the Capodimonte porcelain section. He is the author of the «Porta Babà» produced by the Royal Factory of Capodimonte, Adi Index Compasso d’Oro 2019 selection.
Max Hogeforster
Chairman – Hanse Parlament
Studied law and business, doctorate in E-Commerce and law, worked for domestic and foreign firms as a lawyer; own firm since 2004. Since 1999 also involved in several international development projects. Many years of experience as a senior project manager in the implementation of complex international education projects for the Hanse-Parlament. Main focus innovation, qualification and work-based learning for SMEs. Since 2010 President of the Baltic Sea Academy. Since 2013 chairman of the Hanse-Parlament, a non-profit organization of 60 chambers of crafts, commerce and industry and 22 universities with the common goal to promote European SMEs.
Louise Allen
Director – Creative Futures Academy
Louise has extensive leadership experience in the creative and cultural sector both nationally and internationally. As Director of the Creative Futures Academy, a pivotal initiative that provides agile and responsive courses to up-skill Ireland’s cultural and creative sector, she leads a team that spans three Higher Education Institutes: The National College of Art & Design (NCAD), Institute of Art, Design & Technology (IADT) and University College Dublin (UCD). Prior to this, as CEO (acting) and Head of Innovation at Design & Crafts Council, Ireland and as President of WCC-Europe she was central to the strategic development of the design and craft sector.
Chele Esteve Sendra
Chair of Crafts at Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain
PhD Cum Laude; International Mention UPV. Master of Arts (MA) Industrial Design from the University of Central England, Birmingham (UK).
Chele´s professional motivations and passion for learning about other countries lead her to investigate how everything is connected: people, objects, crafts, ideas and cultures. The quality of connections is the key to success in a society that advocates multiculturalism. She is currently a Chairwoman of Digital Gap and Functional Diversity and actively collaborates with the Chair of Crafts, both at the Universitat Politécnica de Valéncia.
Maria João Alves
Head of Unit Division for Qualifica Centres Monitoring – National Agency for Qualification and Vocational Education and Training, Portugal
Head of Unit of the Division for Qualifica Centres Monitoring, at ANQEP, since 2016, with responsibility in the development of instruments to support the activity of the Qualifica Centres, processes of Recognition, Validation and Certification of Competencies (RVCC), as well as monitoring, pedagogical support and financing of the network. At ANQEP, she has also been Head of Division – Management of the Network of Centres for Qualification and Vocational Education and Training, between 2013 and 2015, and Head of the Multidisciplinary Team for Monitoring Qualification pathways for young people and adults, between 2019 and 2012.
Antonio Suárez Martín
Antonio Suárez Martín, Director, National Reference Center for Crafts, Spain
Degree in Spanish Philology from the University of Granada (Spain) and Master in Public Management and Institutional Leadership from the University of Vigo (Pontevedra, Spain), with experience of more than twenty years in project management and vocational training programs. Since 2005, he has been the director of the Centro Albayzín, A Training school in Crafts and Restoration in Cultural Heritage (Granada, Spain). This school is the Spanish National Crafts Reference Centre since 2019.
Heidi Tveide
Director, Mesterbrev, Master Craftsman Certificate System, Norway
Heidi Tveide is the Managing Director of Mesterbrevnemnda. Tveide has worked with vocational training for 22 years and is passionate about apprenticeships and the collaboration between schools and businesses. Through this work, Tveide discovered the importance of the Master Craftsman businesses, these often being the cornerstones of smaller communities. Tveide is humble and proud to represent the Master Craftspeople and to continue to work for a sustainable future through quality craftsmanship and respect for resources.
