The Escola Massana in collaboration with the Barcelona Design Museum has organized a day of reflection and proposals towards a new paradigm in the history of art, design, and crafts. This event will try to review the state of objects, images, and spaces in an interdisciplinary and transversal way. Researches and practices that have been concerned with this topic will be shared to provide a new conceptual and academic framework that allows the development of this new paradigm. The event will take place in the auditorium of Escola Massana on November 30, 2021, from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00 hours.

The conference will begin with a lecture by Larry Shiner (Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, History, and Visual Arts at the University of Illinois, Springfield). There will also be several presentations and discussions about the hierarchies in the history of art. In the afternoon, there will be a visit to the Design Museum, where the director and the heads of the different collections will open a dialogue about the difficulties of the current theoretical framework and the relation of the art with decorative arts, craftsmanship and design, paying special attention to the pedagogical role of the museum towards the citizenship.
Due to the limited capacity, it is necessary to email jornades@amicsdelamassana.cat to register. The lectures will be streamed live on YouTube. The link will be shared on their website: www.amicsdelamassana.cat/jornades_en. The main languages to follow the event will be Catalan, English, and Spanish.
